European and German Traditional Recipes

This delectable collection of chocolate cake biscuit, whipped cream and cherries is a favorite the world over and is believed to have originated in the 16th century in the Black Forest Region of Germany.
Called Schwarzwälderkirschtorte in German, which means Black Forest Cherry Torte, it is a chocolate layer cake with Kirsch, whipped cream, sour cherries and chocolate curls.
The first recorded doughnut recipes date from the mid 19th century. At this time doughnuts were known as olykoeks, or oily cakes, and it's primarily the Dutch who are credited with taking sweet dough balls and frying them in pork fat.

Plum Cake or "Zwetschgenkuchen"
is a classic German pastry and a delicious way to use all the plums that ripen in late summer. A cross between a tart and a cake, the baked red plums give this treat a rosy appearance. A lovely large recipe for two 8 inch cakes featuring delicious and juicy plums, lemon, sour cream and butter - it is best served with lots of fresh whipped cream.
This easy to make cake is sure to be a favorite amongst dinner guests! Traditionally, coffee cake is served in the afternoon, but you can serve it for your morning coffee break, after lunch or as a fabulous dessert!
This is a delightful recipe for a large ring cake featuring red wine, cinnamon and chocolate chips - it is remarkable when served with fresh whipped cream and can easily be frozen.
